Sometimes your garage suddenly stops working and you start it
worry. What you might be unaware of is that you don’t need to call help
immediately. You can try some of the troubleshooting tricks and it can help you
repair your best garage door opener yourself. Here are few listed, most common
problems that people face with their doors and we have provided tips how to
deal in those situations. Before anything you do, always play it safe.
First, to be sure that the problem is with the opener you need to pull the
emergency release cord and try lifting the door manually. If it does not, it
means the problem is related to the door and not the opener. If it does, then
before you start with repair you should bring your door back down, so that when
you are working on it, it doesn’t come crashing down. Remember to unplug the
opener as well, because anyone in your house could switch on the remote,
without knowing that you are working on it and you would end up electrocuting
yourself.
Remote is working but Wall Switch is not.
If that’s the scenario, then the wall switch or the switch wires need to be
replaced. Unscrew the switch and then connect the wires to check if the wires
are working or not. If the opener starts to work, it means the problem is with
the switch and not with the wires.
The door is going up, but you have to hold down
the wall switch to bring it back down.
The problem might be in the safety sensors as they need to be in alignment.
Does the small light on each sensor lit up when there is nothing in between the
sensors? Well, it should and if not, it suggests sensors need to be replaced.
They do go bad in time if they face a lot of direct sunlight.
The outlet has power but there are no lights or sound when you are pushing the remote and wall switch.
This suggests that the circuit board is ruined. Circuit board has all the wire
terminals and holds the light bulb, which is why it could get affected by
lightning strikes. You can replace the circuit board and it isn’t as scary as
it seems. You need to remove the light cover, then the light bulb. Next, you disconnect
the switch and safety sensor wires. Using 1/4th inch nut driver,
remove the screws and unplug the board.
Trolley Carriage is Moving but Door doesn’t Open
The reason behind it would be broken trolley and before pulling it off, you
should clamp down the chain to the rail as it helps maintain the location of
the chain on the socket and you would be able to reassemble it quickly. Then,
separate chain from both sides of the trolley and move the rail off to one side
by disconnecting it. Easily you can slide
off the old trolley, and slide on the new one. Reattach everything in the
reverse procedure!
